The spirits of the African diaspora continue to be a living and vibrant part of peoples lives. This show includes a blend traditional and modern interpretations of these spirit, their stories and ceremonies. Curated by Andrew McGregor

Two exquisite oshé Shangós from Cuba. One is ornamented with beads and cowries. This particular oshé is not only a religious piece, but also a collector’s item. The other oshé is carved from mahogany, ready to be dressed or painted. Both oshés are ready to be “charged” and consecrated.

Eleda.Org wants to send a special Orisha anniversary celebration to Yeyefini Efunbolade who celebrated 40 years with her Orisha, Obatala, this past Saturday, August 27th. Es con un gran pesar en el corazón que reporto la noticia de la lamentable pérdida de un gran y reconocido olorisha lukumí, Alfredo Calvo, Obá Tolá quien falleció hoy en su nativa Ciudad de Matanzas. Descendiente de la gran iyalorisha Ma Monserrate González, Obá Tero, Obá Tolá era uno de los pocos alagbás que quedaban en dicha ciudad y un gran conocedor de las tradiciones egbado-cubanas. Su inigualable voz traía no solo sapiencia sino júbilo y energía sagrada a todo wemilere donde hacia su presencia. Su gran conocimiento de orikí para alabar a los orishas y estimularlos a poseer a sus caballos no tenía ni tendrá rival. Con Obá Tolá muere una generación; una era; una conexión a un pasado que pocos han tenido la bendición de experimentar y conocer; un pasado que los pocos que restan que gozaron de esta era de seguro lamentan y añoran como lamentaremos la pérdida de Obá Tolá y añoraremos su presencia cada vez que suene un tambor batá en Matanzas. Originally from Detroit, she currently lives in Miami where she is working as a freelance artist, web developer (including Eleda.org) and tattoo artist.
