María Rentería, Oshún Miwá

Es con gran peso en mi corazón que reporto la muerte de María Rentería, Oshún Miwá, quien falleció en Miami hoy, en Sep. 14, 2006. Oshún Miwá probablemente era la mayor (o una de las mayores) de los omorishas del difunto Luís Rivera, Oké Ewé, el fundador de la rama popularmente conocida como las “pirañas.” Aunque ya se encontraba enferma, la semana pasada, el 7 del corriente, Oshún Miwá cumplió 39 años de osha. Es una muerte que me toca muy de cerca ya que Oshún Miwá me vio crecer y, hace apenas diez años, tuve el honor de consagrarle Oduduwá. Extiendo mi más sentido pésame a su hija Tita, su adorada hija, quien a pesar de atravesar épocas difícil con su madre en el último año, nunca le abandonó y estuvo siempre a su lado. También les doy el pésame a sus omorishas los cuales siempre la tuvieron en un lugar muy especial dentro de su corazón. Sin lugar a duda, orún disfrutará de su chispa y su carácter jovial. Ayé por siempre la extrañará. Ibá é layé n’torún Oshún Miwá.

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of María Rentería, Oshún Miwá, who died on Sep. 14, 2006 in Miami. Oshún Miwá was probably the oldest (or one of the oldest) omorishas of Luís Rivera, Oké Ewé, founder of the lineage that is popularly known as the “piranhas.” Though she was already in bed, Oshún Miwá just celebrated her 39th orisha anniversary on the 7th of the current month. Her death affects me very much, especially as Oshún Miwá saw me grow up. In addition, I had the honor of consecrating Oduduwá for her ten years ago. I extend my most heartfelt condolences to Tita, her loving daughter, who never abandoned her mother in all these years and suffered through very difficult times with her after the onset of her condition in the past year. In addition, my thoughts go out to her omorishas who always kept Oshún Miwá in a very special place in their hearts. Undoubtedly, orún will benefit from her jovial spark and loving nature.
