Oddun Owó, Oddun Omá, Oddun Arikú Babawa

To all priests of Ifá, and our brethren Oriatés, Babaloshas, Iyaloshas and Igboro, and the religious community in general.

This past 31st of December, 2002, the annual gathering of a group of prominent priests of Ifá representing the mayority of the religious families of the United States, and counting with the support of 132 devotees of the Yoruba faith, 112 of which were Babalawós, took place in Miami, Florida.

The ceremonies took place at the Rancho Oddu Ará, located at 6610 SW 123 Avenue, in Miami, and a great number of Awó Orunmilá or reknowned prestige, capacity and knowledge, known nationally and internationally. From their analises we offer the following summary of the odú Ifá for 2003:

Blessings of firm foundations, provided by the Supreme Being,
Great Legislator of the Universe

Reigning Orisha:
ELEGBÁ. Also known as Eshú. Orisha of the paths. Olodumaré created him as the dynamic principle of creation. He is worshipped in all the homes of followers of the Yoruba faith.

Accompanying orisha:
OYÁ. Is a divinity associated with death; she is the doorkeeper and owner of the cemetery, the youngest. Goddess of war, she is a violent warrior orisha who fights with two swords beside Shangó.

Flag:
Half red, half black, with a brown border.

Ebó:
Rooster, pigeon, 3 medium-sized chickens, cotton leaves, garbage from the person’s home, dirt from a crossroad, a small house, a male figure and a female figure, used clothing, scraping from the sole of the person’s shoes and from their doorway, 17 violet colored ribbons, tilled soil, soil from an abandoned house, a lizard, a stone from a corner, and the other traditional ingredients.

Diseases that will appear more frequently this year:

  • An increase in cases of arterio-sclerosis.
  • Coronary ailments.
  • Nervous system.
  • Memory loss.
  • General problems with the leg (fractures, arthritis, loss of sinobial fluid, problems with the tibia and the meniscus).
  • Peripheral Neuropathy.
  • Hypertension..
  • Diabetes.
  • Bursitis.
  • Ailments associated with obesity.

Occurrences that will have social impacts

  • Stress resulting from instability in the work place, business, and/or home.
  • Serious economic problems resulting from debts that result from the purchase of property.
  • Olofín speaks of mourning in the family and in society as a result of wars, terrorist attacks, and the death of public figures.
  • Olofín indicates that many will lose lands, homes, inheritances, and speaks of usurpation of owner’s rights over these.
  • The odú speaks of improper attention and abuse of the elderly.
  • Conflicts among offspring, parents, godparents and godchildren due to lack of attention to specific needs, disrespect, lack of love and/or appreciation.
  • Olofín warns businesspeople that aspire to make excessive earnings through speculation that they will face irreparable losses and profound failures.
  • Alerts in terms of documents and migratory processes continues.
  • Olofín also forewarns that as a result of the acute socio-economic situation of the country, juvenile delinquency will be on the rise.
  • This odú pronounces that there will be an alliance of nations to fight a war against a common enemy.

Recommendations

  • It is necessary to clarify and legalize any documents that have to do with inheritances, testaments and wills.
  • Youth should not allow themselves to seek enrichment through illicit means.
  • More attention should be given to ancestors and spiritual matters.
  • Food consumption should be moderate and low in salt and fat.
  • Control excessive consumption of sugar.
  • Control the consumption of tobacco and alcohol.
  • Avoid sedentary lifestyles and begin an exercise program.
  • Increment consumption of fruits and vegetables.
  • Olofín recommends that we must be responsible in terms of our social obligations (work, education, the family and more and more to become better religious examples).
  • Get a better handle on financial matters and avoid excessive or unnecessary expenses.
  • Give more attention and respect to our elders.
  • Olofín calls on all the Babalawós, Oriatés, Babaloshas, Iyaloshas, Igboro and the religious community in general, and especially on businesspeople, politicians, business owners and everyone who may have the destiny of others in their hands, to control their excesses in terms of material ambition and focus more on moral principles and ethics.
  • It is important that all members of the religious community unify with consideration and mutual respect. Alliances between religious homes are recommended so that we can overcome the common obstacles that we face such as social and legal persecutions. We must avoid discords, differences, arrogance and all ill intentions that impede that we can come together bring luster and solidity to our religion.
  • Be careful with market speculation as it relates to facilitating purchases or sales.

Procedures to work with the odú Otura Ojuani (Alaketu):

  • Sacrifice a he-goat to Elegbá.
  • Frequent eborí with cotton leaves and/or white pigeons.
  • Offer a whistle and a hollowed bamboo shoot to Elegbá.
  • Wash the head with an omiero containing cotton, leaf-of-life, and amaranthus leaves.
  • Plant cotton.
  • Sacrifice to Egún together with Elegbá to bring about family unification.
  • Compliment any pending ceremonies having to do with Oduduwá.
  • Offerings to Oduduwá to ask for the blessing of a home.

Invitation
We invite all Ifá priests, Oriatés, Babaloshas, Iyalochas and Igboro to attend, dressed in white or light colors, to attend a Fundamental drum that we shall sponsor for the governing orishas to pray for peace, health and the stability of all humankind. Sunday, January 12th at 2:00 PM. The drum will take place at Rancho Oddu Ará, 6610 SW 123 Avenue.
